The eWAVE project was strongly represented by the colleagues from DNV at the 9th European Conference of the Prognostics and Health Management (PHM) Society, which is the flagship European conference for broad research of Prognostics and Health Management across all disciplines, technologies and levels.
First, a research paper was presented by Eric Aaslund during the conference titled A Comprehensive Literature Review of State of Safety (SoS) for Maritime Battery Management Systems (BMSs), which investigated the state of the art of SoS in the maritime industry such as definitions, calculation methods and potential gaps. The presentation was highly appreciated and positive feedback was received from the attendance with interactive discussions.
Second, Knut Erik Knutsen chaired a panel session which focused on maritime applications of PHM (https://phm-europe.org/panel-sessions), where several key questions were discussed in detail such as What barriers do you see to uptake of PHM in maritime? and How can PHM model failures including uncertainty to improve safety beyond what statistical failure-rate approaches can capture?
Experienced panellists from industry and academia investigated and discussed several aspects that are essential for maritime operations such as implementation challenges, data-driven strategies and the role of PHM in enabling autonomous and conventional vessels to operate safely under demanding condition.
